4D Barock

Following the idea of the 4D Orchestra, a line-up of baroque and chamber music specialists from the centres of Europe came together for the first time in 2023 under the name 4D Barock under the direction of Gunther Rost.

All "4D" orchestral projects deliberately play with different perspectives on music-making - for example, those of the organ, of chamber music, of the modern orchestra or of so-called historically informed performance practice.
Conventions, knowledge and inspiration from different worlds begin to flow into each other, fertilising one other to create a new, timeless language.

Based on the joyful, highly improvisatory and ornamental music of the Baroque period, Gunther Rost and 4D Barock once again explore the flexibility of time - the fourth dimension.

The fact that 4D Barock plays on period instruments does not mean that the ensemble is exclusively dedicated to early music: Every concert and recording project also includes new music commissioned and composed specifically for this instrumentation. It is also part of the 4D Orchestra concept to make the results of their joint work available to a broad public free of charge. According to this principle, 4D Baroque also creates audio and video productions for free publication on this website and other online platforms.

4D Barock thus continues Gunther Rost's work at the Graz Centre for Organ Research, contributing to the repertoire of the organ as a solo instrument.
